Today we are dealing with an unusual cartoon. It’s not that it’s about owls or has a strong plot. The director is the not unknown Zack Snyder. He has “Dawn of the Dead”, “300” and “Watchmen” under his belt. How could a director of such films make a children’s fairy tale about owls?? It’s simple, he took it off like an adult. Even in Snyder’s style, if you understand what I mean. I, as a person who was disappointed in cartoons and gave up on them for 3 years, back in the days of the third Shrek, really liked it.
First of all, you need to understand that this cartoon does not pretend to be anything and is mass-produced. But damn, how much effort was put into it. First of all, this, of course, concerns animation and the drawing of the picture itself. This is beyond praise. I haven’t seen a more beautiful cartoon yet. The authors also treated the characters with love. I haven’t cared so much about a naive main character in a long time. The cartoon gives you everything you expect from it and even a little more. But let’s take it in order.

So everything is fine with this. A fairy tale as it should be, with betrayal, legends, heroes and villains. The only moment that I didn’t really like was the ending itself, which hints at a continuation. Oh, how I don’t want this to turn into an endless cartoon franchise, of which there are an insane amount these days. This is a one act performance. A little less would not be enough for you, a little more would be too much. Although not following the current fashion of walking for 2 hours, “Legends of the Night Knights” quite manage to tell and show everything they wanted in their hour and a half.
The biggest surprise for me was the presence of some really great action.I mean seriously. Not in every blockbuster you will see such clear, beautiful and well-choreographed action. I never thought that owls could be so brutal. Zack Snyder, of course, did not spare the slow-mo for this film, which only benefits the movie and greatly pleases the viewer’s eye. I’m already silent about the final epic battle, which, in terms of staging, can rival some war films with their air battles. Maybe someone won’t like this approach to filming a cartoon about owls, but gentlemen, it’s been different more than once. When did something good come out of it?? The direct hands of artists and animators, coupled with Snyder’s production, give us the best cartoon in the last few years. I haven’t been this impressed since Finding Nemo, I guess.
In general, to make it easier to understand what Snyder did, we can draw some kind of analogy.I hope everyone remembers the cartoon “Feathered Special Forces”? It’s about pigeons in World War II.Well, these two cartoons relate to each other in the same way as in cinema, for example, “Batman: Forever” and “The Dark Knight” relate. “Night Watchmen”, despite its childish fairytale-like quality, turned out to be quite adult, according to the narration. What suits them only?. Yes, someone will stink that it’s too pretentious, again Zack Snyder makes us look at his dregs in slow-mo. But you have to be a negative person in advance.
Also, so that tomatoes don’t fly at me, I must say that it’s not that I don’t like Pixar. But I think that their last masterpiece cartoon was “Finding Nemo”, then they went into self-copying. Very cute, but self-copying. I had a hard time watching “Wall-e” and “Up”. Almost all of Pixar’s short films are brilliant, no doubt about it. But there’s a problem with full-length films. For me personally. Although Pixar position their cartoons as for adults too, there is essentially nothing in them for adults, except for drama in every cartoon. And I’m generally silent about the other streams of the cartoon waterfall. I only liked “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and “Toy Story 3”.
So if you are a fan of Zack Snyder, haven’t watched cartoons for a long time, or just love fairy tales, this is for you. Everything is here and in a beautiful wrapper. It’s very rare that there’s really something worthwhile wrapped underneath it. I wouldn’t advise anyone to skip it. Moreover, probably the first reason after the avatar to go to the movies in Tride. The cartoon is simply amazing, I’m not going to look for any negatives, the Pixard drochers and Zack Snyder haters will do that for me. 8.5/10 and all sorts of recommendations to everyone.
